Evie Mathis, daughter of Rick and Cindy Mathis of Wayland, has become only the 10th female vaulter in Michigan history to clear 13 feet indoors.
She accomplished that feat in the Snowball Vault at Landon Athletics Saturday, Jan. 10. The 13-0 stat was the personal best of her career. A senior at Wayland High School, she is the defending Division 2 state champion in the event.
She has accepted an offer to attend the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) on an athletic scholarship this fall.
Congratulations to Evie and her family. We’ve been following this young lady’s accomplishments for quite a while, and we are so happy to see what her hard work and commitment to her sport have earned her.
