All freshmen and sophomores at Wayland High School were invited to take part in a special program Monday about the dangers of distracted driving either from drunk driving or texting while driving.

The “National Save a Life Tour” was led by Mike Campbell, motivational speaker, who talked to students about the deadly consequences of distracted driving.

He asked “Is there any text message more important than someone’s life?”  Campbell shared his personal story of his uncle who was killed by a drunk driver.

After the presentation, students were able to experience firsthand what it’s like to drive impaired by using simulators for texting while driving and for drunk driving.

“It’s realistic and scary,” said ninth-grader Haylee Luke, after using the drunk driving simulator. She is getting her driver’s license in three months.

The Save a Life Tour is offered to colleges, high schools, military bases and corporations.
