It wasn’t all that surprising that the Wayland boys’ basketball team got the best of neighboring O-K Gold Conference rival Middleville Thornapple Kellogg Friday night.
What was surprising was that it wasn’t close.
The Wildcats came up with their finest offensive night of the season in an 80-52 romp.
Wayland, with the win, improves to 6-13. TK, meanwhile, falls to 3-16 overall and 1-10 in the league standings. The Trojans earlier this season defeated Wayland 50-36, so the ‘Cats more than doubled their team offensive output.

The Lady Wildcats appear to have hit a bad patch at this point in the season. They won their first seven contests in a row, but since losing a showdown with unbeaten South Christian, they have dropped dropped five of their last eight.
The Lady Wildcats have fallen to fifth place in the O-K Gold Conference, behind South Christian, West Catholic, Wyoming and Thornapple Kellogg, in that order.
Marissa Ainsworth nailed three threes and led the offensive attack with 17 points, but no one was able to net more than seven points, that feat accomplished by Addi Sikorski. Laney Wolf scored one three-point field goal.
The ‘Cats beat Northeview in overtime recently after drilling them 71-31 in early January. Wayland defeated TK early in the season 45-38, but this time it had a hard time scoring points.

The Lady Clippers moved above .500 again at 8-7 with the victory Friday evening. They led at all the period stops, 12-5, 25-11 and 33-15. They have held Delton below 30 points twice this season.
“I thought we played really well and had a very balanced attack tonight. It was our Senior Night and proud of our three seniors, Torryn Harris (11 points), Alley Bacon (3 points) and Marybeth Ritchie (2 points),” said coach Eric Zudweg.
“Marybeth tore her ACL in a scrimmage right before our games started this season so hse has been out the whole season, but tonight she was able to start tonight and get a chance to get a basket, very cool moment. “
Anna Jager had 13 points, Kayden Jager and Aliyah DeGlopper each had 9.
