
Sophomore Abree VanDenbrink and freshman Madison Baumhoffer continued their recent successes in 5,000-meter races for Wayland, and the team finished a respectable third in the O-K Gold jamboree Wednesday.
VanDenbrink and Baumhoffer earned fifth and sixth places, respectively, and the Wildcats checked in with 74 points behind South Christian’s 21 and Middleville Thornapple Kellogg’s 65.
VanDenBrink recorded a time of 20:43.27 and Bauumhoffer was right behind her at 20:58.02 on the 5K course at Wayland Middle School. Ryleigh Haveman was 30th, Marissa Ainsworth 32nd and Sophia Miller 35th to round out there scoring.
The Wayland boys’ squad finished fifth among the seven teams with 133 points.South Christian won it with 29 points.
Mason Fein and Ethan Manning did exactly what the Wildcats’ top two female harriers did by taking fifth and sixth. Fein cross the finish line in 17:41.57 and Manning’s time was 18:04.84.
Carter Bultje was 42nd, Jackson Byers 64th and Shane Krasinski 67th.
