Wildcat marching band wins 1st in class honors

The Wayland High School marching band scored a 77.2 for its first competition of the season Saturday, earning excellence in MUSIC, and was awarded first place in their classification at the Portage Invitational.

Band Director Kelli Tilley Smith said, “We were the only band that was able to march in our original classification due to the storm. The host and judges felt that it wouldn’t be fair if our scores were based on music alone since we did get to march. They decided that they would just create a separate classification, BB, So that we could have a complete score.”
