Wildcats’ season ends with loss to team they beat earlier

The basketball season for the Wayland boys’ team came to an end Monday night in the opening round of the post-season Division 2 district tournament.

The Wildcats lost 64-58 to Hamilton to end their campaign with an 8-15 overall record. Interestingly, Wayland defeated the Hawkeyes in the season opener back in December 58-54.

Hamilton, now 9-13, moves on to the semifinals Wednesday to take on a South Haven squad that has lost only once this season.

Martin boys 81 Covert 34

The Clippers captured their sixth victory of the season in the tourney’s opening round, ending Covert’s campaign at 0-20.

Martin, now 6-17 for the season, will play in the semifinals at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, against the tourney host, Lawrence.

Hopkins boys 59 Allegan 41

The Vikings took out the tournament host Monday night with a double digit decision. They lifted their record to 4-19 overall and they will face a 15-6 Holland Christian squad in the semifinals Wednesday. Allegan’s season ended with a 7-13 record.
