Winter storm watch issued for Allegan, Barry counties

A Winter Storm Watch was issued at 2:45 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, until Monday, Dec. 29, by the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids for Mason, Oceana, Muskegon, Ottawa, Kent, Allegan, Barry, Van Buren and Kalamazoo counties.

Heavy snow is possible with total accumulations between 4 and 7 inches. Winds could gust as high as 55 mph.

Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Visibilities may drop below 1/4 mile due to falling and blowing snow. Whiteout conditions are possible and may make travel treacherous and potentially life-threatening.

Travel could be very difficult. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes. Strong winds could cause tree damage.
