Wayland Union Middle School students last week took part in the 24th annual AT&T/Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning (MACUL) Student Technology Showcase in Lansing, highlighting appliedtechnology efforts they developed in the classroom.
WUMS students presented to state lawmakers on how they created their own 3D-Prints. The process began with Tinkercad, a 3D-design program, to create their figure. Afterward, students used their printed models and silicone putty to craft a custom mold, which was then filled with melted chocolate or soap.
Eva Perez, Max Bernes and Logan Bush explained their process to everyone who stopped by their table.
“I am incredibly proud of their hard work and preparation for the Capitol Technology Showcase,”said Jennifer Howard, WUMS computers teacher.
She said the Wayland Union Education Foundation funded this project in the fall.
“Without the WUEF grant, none of this would have been possible.”
“I am incredibly impressed by the innovative 3D-printing work our Wayland Union Middle School students are doing with Mrs. Howard,” said Teresa Fulk, Assistant Supt.of Instructional Services at Wayland Union Schools. “It was an honor to join this group at the MACUL Student Technology Showcase as they demonstrated theircreativity and explored other innovative projects happening in schools across our state.
“I am grateful to Mrs. Howard for providing our students with this learning experience and to the Wayland Union Education Foundation for the grant funding that makes innovative experiences like this possible for our students and staff.”
Presented by Michigan Association for Computer Users in Learning and underwritten by AT&T, the 2025 Student Technology Showcase featured demonstrations from students representing 26 schools across Michigan. The Lansing showcase was held in the State Capitol’s new Heritage Hall Tuesday, Dec. 2, enabling students to demonstrate and display technology projects they have created for Capitol visitors as well as policymakers.
