Wolf’s free throws seal Lady Wildcats’ victory over TK

Senior Laney Wolf swished four consecutive free throws in the last minute and a half to preserve Wayland’s 45-38 victory over Middleville Thornapple Kellogg Friday night.

The Lady Wildcats improved to 8-1 for the season overall and they remain just a game back of South Christian and GR West Catholic in the latest standings in the O-K Gold Conference.

Senior Addie Sikorski again led Wayland’s offensive attack and freshman Jordan Grevenstuk added an even dozen. Marissa Ainsworth scored nine points and she, Grevenstuk and Charity Laker each came up with a couple of three-point field goals.

The Lady Wildcats, now 3-1 in league play, have their work cut out for them next Tuesday when they travel to West Catholic.

Martin girls 53 Black River 20

The Lady Clippers now have won five of their last six encounters, with their only loss in that stretch by just one point.

Martin jumped out to a commanding lead and then was able to coast the rest of the way.

The Lady Clippers now own a 5-3 record overall for the season.

Hopkins girls 44 Kelloggsville 32

The Lady Vikings appear to be cementing their second place position in the O-K Silver Conference standings. They won the road Friday night to improve their overall record to 6-3 and 4-1 in the league.

Grandville Calvin Christian is the only Silver team they’ve lost to, by seven points. The Squires are undefeated, NorthPointe Christian also has only one loss in league play, but Hopkins defeated the Mustangs earlier this this season.

The Viking boys Friday night lost a non-league contest, 61-40, to East Grand Rapids. Hopkins guys’ overall record is 1-10.

Martin boys 53 Black River 37

The Clippers lifted their overall season record to 3-9 with win Friday night.

Middleville Thornapple Kellogg boys 50 Wayland 36

The visiting Trojans spoiled Wayland’s Snowcoming festivities and extended the Wildcats’ losing skid to eight straight games. Wayland will take on West Catholic Tuesday night.
