A woman drowned in Selkirk Lake Saturday night while swimming with another woman near a residence on the lake.
Allegan County Sheriff’s authorities arrived at the just after 11 p.m. at the 800 block of 127th Avenue in Wayland Township. A caller reported two older females were swimming in the lake off from a residence, but one of them did not come back to shore. Road patrol and marine patrol deputies were dispatched, as well as the Sheriff’s Office Dive/Rescue and Recovery Team.
The victim was identified as 40-year-old Anna Elizabeth Demshuk of Holland. Family notifications have been made with the assistance from various law enforcement agencies in Western Michigan.
Sheriff’s personnel conducted a search of the area where the victim was last known. Divers went into the water and located the victim was near a floating raft anchored in the lake. She was brought to shore to awaiting EMS personnel who attempted to revive her, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation indicates that the incident was accidental and medical, issues along with alcohol, may have been contributing factors. The victim was missing for approximately 45 minutes and was found in approximately 10 feet of water.
The victim did have friends who reside on the lake.
