Yankee Springs Twp Board votes against proposed marina

The Yankee Springs Township Board voted 3-2 Thursday night to adopt a resolution against Lucas Spoor’s proposed marina expansion on Gun Lake.
Trustee Shannon Vandenberg and Supervisor Mark Englerth voted no in a roll call vote.
The proposed expansion of the Landing Marina on Gun Lake would result in 52 boat slips at 11925 Marsh Road. It has faced much opposition from area citizens, including the Gun Lake Protective Association (GLPA).
The resolution, put forward by board member Roger Rottschafer, reaffirmed support of efforts opposing the marina. Rottschafer brought up the issue after a weekend out on the lake talking with people concerned that zoning laws do not permit a marina in that location.
The passage of resolution 7.01.2017 sends a strong recommendation that Barry County block Spoor’s marina.
Spoor, along with his legal representation, was in attendance at the meeting. In a press release, he said that GLPA dues paid for the more than $9,000 in legal fees and asked if any votes or surveys were taken before such action.
Only a handful of citizens were allowed to speak before the board made up their mind. Residents of the lake said any money spent was “worth it” and they “elected a board for a reason”.
