The 100th Street bridge over the U.S.-131 expressway just north of Dorr, will be closed at 6 o’clock tonight (Friday, March 27) for demolition and replacement.
The bridge received a lot of publicity over the last several years because it was being struck by large semi-trucks on more than a few occasions, more than a half dozen times.
The bridge actually was closed to east-west traffic last Monday and it will remain closed at least until 6 p.m. Monday, March 30. Drivers won’t have to take a detour because traffic will use the ramps northbound and southbound to get past the interchange. As a result, one lane on U.S.-131 will be closed in both directions approaching the bridge beginning Friday morning.
There will be no access to 100th Street from the ramps and motorists cannot get onto the freeway from 100th Street until demolition is completed and U.S.-131 is reopened.
Occasional lane closures on the expressway will occur at various times as needed during the project, which ends in late October.
