Work on the embattled 100th Street overpass spanning US-131 will begin Monday, April 23.

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) plans to close the bridge to both directions of traffic at 7 p.m.

There also will be night-time lane closures (9 p.m. to 6 a.m.) on the northbound stretch of the highway through Thursday, May 3.

Crews will be replacing two beams in the bridge, but not bubble wrapping it as some citizens jokingly suggested April 7.

The westbound lane of the overpass has been closed since January after two semi-trucks hit it on the same day. The bridge has been struck at least six times total this year.

MDOT eventually plans to do resurfacing work to increase clearance. A full bridge replacement comes in 2020.
