The Wayland girWHS basketballls’ basketball team fell from tied for first to fourth in this week’s Associated Press state-wide poll.

The boys, meanwhile, are currently rated No. 7.

The Lady Wildcats dropped in the polling because of a 64-42 defeat last Friday night at the hands of Grand Rapids Catholic Central, which moved up to a tie with Goodrich in the No. 2 slot. Midland Bullock Creek remains at No. 1.

Wayland now sports a 17-1 overall record and Catholic Central is 16-2. The Cougars’ only other loss was in December to Ypsilanti Arbor, which is among the top 10 in Class C.

The Wildcat boys have an overall record of 14-3. Otsego, a team they defeated in January, is at No. 9, and Wyoming Godwin Heights, which is in Wayland’s district tournament bracket March 9-13, is tabbed at No. 3.

Wayland girls will be at home tonight against Hastings and the boys will meet the Saxons away. Both teams will be at home against South Christian Friday evening.
