The Wayland varsity baseball team picked up a 4-2 win in the nightcap of a doubleheader Monday at Middleville Thornapple-Kellogg.

The victory ended a post-spring break slump for the Wildcats in which they had lost five straight games. Their overall record for the season now is 3-7.

Picking up the win on the mound for the Wildcats was Carter Morse, who pitched five innings, allowing no runs on 2 hits, while striking out 11 Trojan hitters.

Leading the offensive attack for the Wildcats were Cam Ritz, Travis Cutler and Parker Atwell. Ritz was 2-for-3 with an RBI, Cutler was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and Atwell was 2-for-3.

The Wildcats lost the opening game of their double-header to Middleville Thornapple-Kellogg by a score of 10-8. It was a game full of mistakes by both defenses, but the Trojans committed fewer.

The ’Cats had the bases loaded with two outs in the top of the seventh, but a hard hit line drive by Ethan Wood was fielded to end the game.

Leading the offensive attack for the Wildcats in game one were Travis Cutler, Ethan Wood and Chris Kincaid. Cutler was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Wood and Kincaid were both 2-for-4 with a run scored.
