A series of events revolving around a crash on Gun Lake Saturday eventually led to the death of a 54-year-old Hastings woman.
The crash involved a jet ski sent and sent two people to the hospital Saturday afternoon.
Barry County Sheriff’s authorities said the incident took place It happened around 4 p.m. Saturday on the southeast side of the lake.
Deputies say the jet ski and a 16-foot boat and collided, causing injury to the operator and of the jet ski and throwing a woman off the boat.
The two injured people were aided by bystanders and they were taken to a hospital.
Austin Marsman, a reporter for townbroacast.com, said first responders arrived on the scene of the boating accident, and “I am not sure the extent of any injuries, but some people were saying someone died.”
The driver of the personal watercraft was injured and fell into the water. The operator of the larger boat jumped into the water to help the injured driver.
Authorities said the wife of the boat operator, Melanie Cybulski of Hastings, was floating face up and unconscious. She was administered CPR , but the woman, was taken off life support Sunday afternoon.
