Hopkins celebrates Independence Day with parade, events

by Austin Marsman

People from around the area flocked to Hopkins for the Independence Day festivities, which began with a community breakfast at the Hopkins Fire Station. Live music, games, and vendors filled downtown Hopkins all afternoon ahead of the main parade.

The grand marshal and Hopkins area veterans led the procession down Main Street, which was lined with excited children and adults.

Several area fire departments sent trucks to join the parade. Yankee Springs, Wayland, and Martin departments were just a few who participated.

Following the fire trucks were the floats for area businesses including Schaendorf Cattle, Hopkins Propane and the New Salem Corn Maze.

Numerous classic cars and tractors rounded out the parade as the successful celebration closed with fireworks at dusk.
