Brothers Michael Null, 38, of Plainwell and William Null, 38, of Shelbyville, were able to come up with $25,000 apiece, and now are free on bond.

The $250,000 bond amounts remained, but Antrim County 86th District Judge Michael Stepka lowered the bonds by adding a 10% cash or surety allowance. They are lodged in the Grand Traverse County Jail.

The Nulls were among 14 men charged in connection with an alleged plan to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, providing material support for domestic terrorist acts and felony firearm. If convicted, they could face up to 20 years in prison.

The Null brothers were said to have a role in a foiled plot to abduct Whitmer from her vacation home in Antrim County by participating in military-style training exercises and serving as lookouts during surveillance activities at her home. They are alleged to be members of the Wolverine Watchmen militia, which is said to be interested in starting a civil war.

Many right-wing groups have been very vocal in their opposition to the governor’s policies and thos of health officials to shut down gatherings and to insist on people wearing masks to slow the spread of the Coronavirus.

The FBI infiltrated the group using informants, who secretly recorded comments about their plans.
