Celebration of life for coach Wayne Goodwin delayed

A private family service will be held Saturday, Jan. 16, for Wayne H. Goodwin, 93, who died Dec. 29 from complications of pneumonia and Covid-19.

A celebration of life for the public to pay last respects will be held on an undetermined later date. The recent Covid-19 makes the plans necessary.

Goodwin was well known as a football coach for 46 years, a longtime member of the United Church of Wayland and superintendent at Great Lakes Energy.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Church of Wayland.

  1. Wayne was a great man and great coach with the biggest heart for sharing his knowledge for sports. He was a second parent to most Wayland athletes for years. Always positive, instructional, with his arm around your shoulder, he could pick you up when you’re down. Always remember his smile when a play went for a score.

Wayne the year you coached hardings market, my son chuck played. He was probably one of the smaller players, but you put him in that day as center fielder. A fly ball was hi right towards him , he raised that mitt( almost as big as he was) and caught it, of course mom went crazy, I was so proud of him. Good coaching and good friend. Gone but not forgotten.
