Former home economics teacher Jean Modreske dies

Former Wayland High School home economics teacher Jean Marie Modreske, 83, of Wayland, died Wednesday, Dec. 8.

Jean served as Hopkins Treasurer for 12 years and was a home economics teacher for five years. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, sewing and acted as a judge for the baked goods at the Allegan County Fair for many years.

She is survived by husband of 59 years, Floyd; her sons Bruce (Laura), Bob (Shelly) and Paul special friend Kathy Buist; grandchildren Katie (Mitch) Punches, Autumn (Brandon) Prus, Nick (Lauren) Wellman, Stephanie (Andy) Wilson, Matt (April) Modreske, Anie Modreske, Izie Modreske, Wyatt Modreske, Sami Modreske, McKenna Modreske; great-grandchildren Evelyn and Jace Wilson, Tanner and Sawyer Punches, Hudson Wellman, Kinleigh Prus and lifelong friend Margaret Borton and Bob Mabie.

Her parents, John and Mildred DeHaan, preceded her in death.

Services will be held at 3 pm Monday, Dec. 13, at Trinity Lutheran Church of Wayland, 1235 135th Ave. A time to meet with family and friends will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12, at Trinity Lutheran Church and one hour prior to service on Monday.

Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church of Wayland Memorial Fund.
