The Ali Martus streak ended at an unlGirls-Golfucky 13 in a row, and it wasn’t a good day Saturday at the Sturgis Invitational.

Wayland’s senior sensation on the links for the first time in 14 matches this season went over 80 by settling for an 87 in 18 holes at the Island Hills Golf Course. Wayland as a team finished eighth in the 10-team field with a total score of 446, 106 strokes more than tournament winner Okemos. Host Sturgis was runner-up at 370.

Martus had been riding an impressive streak of breaking 40 for nine holes or 80 for 18 holes over the first 13 matches of this season and she was individual medalist in every one.

Wayland will get back on the links next for the final O-K Gold Conference tournament Thursday at the Meadows at Grand Valley State University. The Lady Wildcats have been taking third and fourth in league jamborees throughout the season.
