The Martin girls’ varsity basketball team absorbed its first loss of the season Thursday night, 48-29, at the hands of Division 2 Sturgis in the opening round of the Mendon Holiday tournament.

Martin, a Division 4 school, saw its overall season record slip to 5-1.

The Lady Clippers will play in the consolation round at the tournament at 5 p.m. Friday. They will take on Centreville, which lost 35-11 to tourney host Mendon earlier Thursday.
