Two Wayland students qualify for GR spelling bee

The Wayland Union School students have qualified for the Greater Grand Rapids Spelling Bee later this month by finishing among the top two in the Allegan County Spelling Bee Monday at Otsego Middle School. Wayland had eight students from the middle school and Pine Street participate. The spelling bee went 12 rounds, and the championship word was “detachment.” Spelling bee champion was Audra Nielsen (left in photo), sixth-grader at Wayland Middle School, and runner-up, Amara Sheffer, fifth-grader at Pine Street.
