imgThe Wayland boys’ varsity basketball team, ranked fourth in this week’s Associated Press Class B state-wide poll, make it look easy Friday night in a 77-38 victory at Grand Rapids Catholic Central.

The Wildcats, with the victory, pushed their overall record to 6-1 and their O-K Gold Conference mark to 2-0. Their only loss this season has been in the Cornerstone Holiday Tournament to Forest Hills Central.

The game saw the Wildcats jump out early taking a 40-15 halftime lead, thanks in part to Avery Hudson’s 14 first half points. Hudson would finish the game with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals.

The third quarter saw junior Zack Nieuwkoop take over. Nieuwkoop sat out most of the first half due to foul trouble but scored 17 of his game high 20 points in the third quarter. Michael Kelly was also in double figures for the game with 10 points.

The Wildcats are back in action Tuesday January 19th, hosting one of the top teams in Class A –the  Muskegon Big Reds.
