Leighton balks at adopting local fireworks ordinance

Though the City of Wayland is considering a local fireworks ordinance, the Leighton Township Board Thursday evening decided against moving forward with such a move. The Barry County Sheriff’s dive team and Hastings firefighters recovered the body of Laura Smith, 66, of Middleville, who apparently drowned in Gun Lake Thursday afternoon.
