Wayland man to be tried in Circuit Court in fatal crash

Melick, Dale Richard 100462Dale Robert Melick, 53, of Wayland, has waived his right to a hearing in Allegan County District Court and now will face charges in connection with the fatal traffic crash May 14 on 135th Avenue in Wayland Township.

Melick has been charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired causing death and two counts of operating while impaired causing serious injury.

Melick has pleaded innocent, but remains lodged in the Allegan County Jail on $250,000 bond.

He is accused of of causing the crash that killed Jemimah S. Palsce, 36, of Albuquerque, N.M., and injured Scott Robert Foster, 57, and his wife, Barbara Ann Foster, 56.

Police said Melick was observed speeding and driving recklessly on US-131 before a deputy cjased him and he caused the crash east of Wayland that killed Palsce and injured the Fosters.

Authorities said Melick was driving while drunk and his vehicle struck another, causing the death of Palsce, 36, who was a passenger in the back seat of the vehicle that was struck.
