JC Wheeler Library kicks off summer reading program

 by Austin Marsman

“Build a Better World” is the theme of the JC Wheeler Library’s 2017 reading program in Martin. Saturday officially kicked off the reading frenzy for elementary kids, teens and adults across the area.

Kids signing up Saturday had the opportunity to make crafts, check out books, get their face painted, and do other fun activities. The local Cub Scout chapter was also at the event to complement the Build a Better World theme.

Through local sponsorships, the program offers reading prizes by age or grade level. Top prizes include a Kindle Fire, Drone, and $50 gift card. Aspects generating interest include the unveiling of a time capsule buried in 2012 and incentives for people to improve their communities.

“We love to bring our community together,” said Library Director Alicia Kershaw. “We [the library] offer something for all ages”.

The JC Wheeler Library serves the residents of Martin, Watson and Orangeville townships. For more information about the program or other happenings, connect with the library on Facebook or call (269) 672-7875.
