Truck driver hauling refrigerators busted for OUIL

Sheriff logoA 36-year-old Grand Rapids man was arrested Monday for drunk driving on the U.S.-131 expressway after several motorists reported the driver to Allegan County Central Dispatch.

The driver, who was hauling a load of 27 refrigerators on a 24-foot box truck, was northbound on the highway from the Kalamazoo County line around 5:30 p.m. and was reported to be weaving all over the roadway. Callers reported the vehicle also had been nearly running vehicles off the roadway.

Deputies with the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office were able to catch up with the vehicle on US-131 and 129th Avenue, near the casino. They said the driver did appear to have been drinking and was investigated for driving while under the influence of alcohol.

The driver, as a result of the investigation, was arrested for drunk driving and was found to have a blood alcohol level well above the legal limit.
