WMS 8th-grader wins in regional spelling bee

Wayland Union Middle School was host for the Allegan Countywide Spelling Bee Tuesday, when 33 third through eighth grade students competed.

Wayland Middle School eighth-grader Alexis DeLaney is the 2022 Allegan County Spelling Bee champion and qualified for the Greater Grand Rapids Spelling Bee scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum, 303 Pearl NW, Grand Rapids.

Participating schools in the regionals included Moline Christian, Otsego Middle School, Washington Street Elementary, Alamo Elementary, Dix Street Elementary, Pine Street Elementary School and Wayland Union Middle School.

Lexie’s winning word was “heredity.”

Graysen Schuster, a fourth-grader from Washington Elementary School in Otsego was regional spelling bee runner-up. Adysen Pierce (eighth grade) from Wayland Union Middle School placed third overall.
