The driver of a vehicle that caught fire in Hopkins Township Tuesday night has been listed in critical condition in the hospital.

The motorist, who has not yet been identified, was taken to the hospital by firefighters after first responders found the vehicle on fire on 129th Avenue near 12th Street at about 8:46 p.m.Officers said the driver was the lone occupant, inside and was not responsive.

Firefighters put out the fire and the driver was extricated from the vehicle.

129th Avenue was shut down from 12th Street to 13th Street immediately after the crash.

Deputies said speed was a factor, but the investigation is continues.

The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Gun Lake Tribal Police, Hopkins Fire Department, Wayland EMS, and Allegan Central Dispatch.
