Former Wayland Union Schools Transportation Supervisor Evelyn G. Jansen died Sunday, March 17. She was 87.

She retired from Wayland Union Transportation Department after 27 years of service, first as a driver, then secretary for the transportation supervisor, and then ending her career as transportation supervisor.

In her retirement life, she loved to go boating with her husband, Stanley, go on rides to check out the countryside, covered bridges, and water wheels, and going to get ice cream. She was also a dog mom to her beloved Dixie.

She is survived by her children Ted and Joni Wustman, Trudi and Bob Reurink, Tami Radke, Joan and James Slopsema, Jerry Jansen, Larry and Laurel Jansen, Ron and Mary Jansen, Stan and Sharon Jansen, Steve and Kathy Jansen; special nieces Elaine Jansen, Lynnea Van Wylen; special friend, Rick Radke; 31 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren and one more on the way.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; sons James “Jimmy,” and Timothy; parents Nickolas and Gertrude Beute; brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Ruth Beute; special aunt and uncle, Stella and Sil Dwenger; daughter-in-law, Vickie Jansen; and granddaughter, Sara Troost.

At her request, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at the Wayland VFW Post #7581, 735 S. Main St.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Hospice or The Laurels of Sandy Creek.
