Baker 1st grade teacher Katrina Brown receives grant

Baker Elementary first grader teaDSC_0002cher Katrina Brown has received a foundation grant for $464 from the MEEMIC Insurance Agency.

The grant will purchase the Book Creator application, the Notability app and Pocket Chart Pro app for 24 iPads along with 12 pairs of headsets for voice recording that will support her first grade students as they use their iPads to create eBooks.

Creating their own eBooks enables students to demonstrate learning and understanding, integrates choice and creativity in a way that enhances learning, problem solving, and thinking skills. Students are doing the work of creating, communicating, and learning through a balance of independent work, peer collaboration, and technology. Classroom instruction is enhanced because all students are able to respond, create, and contribute without waiting for a turn. The software is easy to learn and supports interactive and engaging opportunities for learning.

The iPad 2s that are being used in grades K-6 were filtered down from grades 7-12 when they upgraded to the new iPad Air this year.
