Julie Davis-Kubiak, a 1988 graduate of Martin High School, was a three-year varsity basketball player and was first team All Conference in 1985, ’86 and ’87. She was a First Team All-State selection in 1986 and 1987. Martin finished as state runner-up in Class D in 1987.
After graduating from Martin, Julie played four years at Olivet College and was a first team All MIAA selection in 1990 and 1991. She later married former Martin varsity football coach Bob Kubiak, who guided the Clippers to a state Class D championship in 1987.
Cyndee deGraaf was a graduate of Gull Lake Public Schools and Western Michigan University and began teaching at Martin in 1973. She taught high school and middle school English for 25 years and was head of the English Department. After her years of teaching ended, deGraaf became an assistant principal for two years and a principal for three years.
Fred Bogdan, a 1969 graduate of Western Michigan University, taught at Martin for 30 years and served as the technology coordinator from 1996 until 2004. Bogdan served as band director for 30 years and is credited for producing outstanding concert and marching bands throughout his tenure.
Aileen and Elwin Northrup were inducted together. Aileen earned a bachelor and master’s degrees from Western Michigan University and was a teacher at Martin from 1959 through 1996.
Elwin also earned his bachelor and master’s degrees from WMU and taught English at Martin from 1954 through 1957. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1958 and served as principal at Martin from 1959 until 1969. He also served as the Martin Village President.
