The Airport Lanes bowling establishment has been sold by Jack Templin to Ron and Linda Lannon.

Wayland High School bowling coach Sherry Miklusicak posted on her team’s Facebook page, “The future ‘Rock n Bowl’ (aka Airport Lanes) is in the process of getting new owners. Unfortunately, Mr. Templin’s health isn’t allowing him to continue. His heart is still there however so if you see him, thank him for being so good to us. Jack would give anyone the shirt off his back.”

Airport Lanes, a fixture in Wayland for more than 75 years, is located just north of the city limits on Division Avenue. Templin purchased the business from Doug Flick several years ago. The establishment was owned long ago by Haven Tarnutzer. Miklusicak, who grew up not far away, used to work and bowl at Airport Lanes more than three decades ago.

Airport Lanes is the home arena for both the Wayland boys’ and girls’ bowling teams.

“I have met one of the new owners and they are planning on some really fun renovations!” Miklusicak posted. “The bathrooms will be completely redone. There are two large screen TVs coming and a new speaker system. All new counters and cabinets are planned. One of the owners is a Wayland High School graduate and they have family in the area. I had some of their nieces and nephews in class.”

Miklusicak, besides being coach of the boys’ team, is a math teacher at Wayland High School. Mike Omness is overseeing the girls’ team, which included the Division 2 state champion, Sydney Urben, last season.

“I am excited for the positive changes coming. There is a ribbon cutting ceremony with the mayor of Wayland coming. Please help spread the word so we can help make bowling in Wayland a success.”
