Ali Martus does it again, takes medalist honors with sizzling 77

Ali Martus2Wayland senior Ali Martus continued her spectacular start to the girls’ golf season Wednesday with her second straight sub-80 round of 18 holes and medalist honors.

Martus, a three-time qualifier for the state Class B golf championships, fired a 77, just one stroke more than her 76 last week in the season-opening Hamilton Invitational.

Meanwhile, the Wildcat girls finished in the middle of the pack, taking third in the five-team Wayland Invitational at the Orchard Hills Golf Club, Shelbyville. Hudsonville won it with a team score of 361, East Kentwood checked in at 387, Wayland 398, Middleville Thornapple Kellogg 448 and Howard City Tri-County 487.

Martus’ score was five strokes better than all other individual golfers. Dakota Sparks of Hudsonville scored an 82 for runner-up honors.

Alexis Kirschbaum carded a 98 to take eighth place individually, Hunter Fenton had a 115 and Lauren Drew a 115 to round out Wayland’s scoring.
