Wayland senior Ali Martus continued her spectacular start to the girls’ golf season Wednesday with her second straight sub-80 round of 18 holes and medalist honors.
Martus, a three-time qualifier for the state Class B golf championships, fired a 77, just one stroke more than her 76 last week in the season-opening Hamilton Invitational.
Meanwhile, the Wildcat girls finished in the middle of the pack, taking third in the five-team Wayland Invitational at the Orchard Hills Golf Club, Shelbyville. Hudsonville won it with a team score of 361, East Kentwood checked in at 387, Wayland 398, Middleville Thornapple Kellogg 448 and Howard City Tri-County 487.
Martus’ score was five strokes better than all other individual golfers. Dakota Sparks of Hudsonville scored an 82 for runner-up honors.
Alexis Kirschbaum carded a 98 to take eighth place individually, Hunter Fenton had a 115 and Lauren Drew a 115 to round out Wayland’s scoring.
