Four candidates running unopposed didn’t have any surprises in Tuesday’s election for Wayland City Council.

All four are incumbents and they were running unopposed. Councilwoman Lisa Banas was the top vote-getter with 160, Rick Mathis had 152, Jennifer Antel 149 and John Sloan 145.

All are two-year terms, but Sloan, who was appointed to his seat earlier this year to succeed Ron Kobish, is completing an unexpired term and will face re-election next year if he chooses to run again. Mathis and Banas both will begin their second terms later this month.

Antel, the veteran of the group, also is mayor pro tem, filling in for the mayor when he is absent.

City Clerk Michelle Herman indicated that 198 total votes were cast Tuesday in the city.
