All Dorr Twp. Planning Commision officers re-elected

The Dorr Township Planning Commission is back back to business as usual after a bit of turbulence over its membership in the last month.

The commission, at its July 18 regular meeting, re-elected all officers, including Chairman Bob Wagner, Vice Chairman Robert Traxler, Recording Secretary Rich Osbun and Dan Beute as backup secretary.

The reappointment of Wagner to another three-year term was delayed because the Dorr Township Board last month was deadlocked 3-3 on the issue. The board had a special meeting Tuesday, July 13, to break the deadlock, and Trustee Josh Otto, who was absent from the June Township Board meeting, broke the tie by voting to reappoint Wagner. Otto was joined by Trustee Dan Weber, Supervisor Jeff Miling and Treasurer Jim Martin in voting in the affirmative. Trustees John Tuinstra and Terri Rios and Clerk Debbie Sewers voted not to reappoint Wagner.

Wagner has served on the Planning Commission for 49 years and has been its chairman since 1975. His nomination to be chairman again was approved Tuesday night on a 6-1 vote, with Rios casting the lone dissenting vote.

In another matter, the commission unanimously approved a rezoning request to rezone a portion of 39 acres of land currently zoned agricultural to rural agricultural on 144th Street and 24th Street by Jim Schaendorf to allow his daughter and fiancé to construct a home.
