Allegan County’s Covid deaths increase by 2 to 130

Two new deaths from the Coronavirus this week have been reported by the Allegan County Health Department, bringing the total to 130 since the pandemic began more than 13 months ago.

However data released by the Health Department Friday afternoon showed the seven-day new case daily average has decreased from a high of 75.6 April 20 to just 46 April 30.

There have been indications of improving Covid statistics, though the Education Station day care center across the street from the middle school-high school complex has been shut down temporarily, effective Monday, May 3. Though not confirmed. It is believed that Covid is the reason.

Conflicting stats show the positivity rate for new cases over the past two weeks has been 19 percent and hospitalizations increased by five to 221 over the past week.

There have been 10,315 cases of the virus and 8,330 have been designated as recovered.

Because of a recent surge in case numbers, particularly among young people, the Wayland Board of Education to return the high school to the hybrid model of instruction as opposed to the every-day in-person approach over the past two months.

Martin and Hopkins schools have continued in-person instruction this month and have reported few if any problems.
