Allegan County’s Covid-19 death toll increases to 66

Though the seven-day average of number of cases continues to decline, the death toll from the Covid-19 virus Tuesday in Allegan County increased to 62 from 56 last reported just before Christmas.
Michigan’s death toll surpassed 12,000 as of Monday, but the rate of new cases also continues a downward spiral.
The Allegan County Health Department has reported 5,702 cases of the Coronavirus since the pandemic began in mid-March. There are currently 147 hospitalizations and a total of 4,239 reported as having been recovered.
Schools in Allegan County continue to receive a grade of “D,” which is one step above recommendation for all virtual learning. Wayland and Hopkins plan to return Monday, Jan. 4, to hybrid sessions in which half the student population will be in classrooms physically Mondays and Thursdays, the other half Tuesdays and Fridays.
Wednesdays are reserved for all virtual instruction and special sessions for those in need of catching up.
Martin schools plan to resume classroom instruction five days per week on Jan. 4.
