Wayland Area Emergency Services is the busiest it’s ever been, the Martin Township Board was told Wednesday evening.

Sarah Lynema, who represents the township on the Ambulance Board, reported WAEMS is getting an average of seven calls per day, its highest number ever.

She said the ambulance service recently confirmed the hires of three new basic EMTs and it has made a commitment to purchasing yet another vehicle.

WAEMS now serves more than a dozen municipalities, including the townships of Martin, Watson, Monterey, Wayland, Dorr, Leighton, Yankee Springs, Salem, the City of Wayland and the Gun Lake Casino.

In other business, the Township Board:

  • Accepted the low bid from Property Revolution for snow plowing for the 2022-23 winter season. The cost will be $190 per time for plowing the township hall and Wheeler Library parking lots and an additional $50 for applying salt.
  • Was told by Clerk Rachelle Smit that she believes the number of requests for absentee ballots for the Nov. 8 general election is just as strong as it was in 2020.
  • Decided once again against holding a township Christmas party. It wasn’t held in 2021 because of the prevalence of the Covid-19 virus.
