Aqua En Vino parking lot starts charging Tuesday

The parking lot immediately to the south of Aqua En Vino on South Main Street in Wayland, next to the Henika District Library, will start to charge motorists $2.50 an hour for parking Tuesday.

Aqua En Vino owner Arny Rodriguez, who owns the parking lot, posted on Facebook today, “The City of Wayland decided not to assist in maintaining the privately-owned downtown parking lots. Starting Aug.1, the lot next to us will be a pay-to-park lot, using HONK, a software-based payment system.

“You can scan the QR code, tap to pay with a card already pre-loaded in a digital wallet, or use any other electronic payment method (HONK accepts them all). Or you can download the 4.5-star HONK app that millions of drivers use to search, find, pay for, and extend parking.

“All Acqua In Vino customers will receive credit for one hour parking with purchase”

City Manager Josh Eggleston indicated the city does not charge anyone for parking and the decision was Rodriguez’s alone.

The businessman approached the city last year about paying for maintenance of private parking lots downtown, as it had done for a long time. Eggleston and council members replied that the city was getting out of the business of helping to fund snow plowing and other services in an effort to save tax dollars.

The parking lot adjacent to Full Potential Chiropractic has signs posted that any motorist who uses the lot will have their vehicles towed at their own expense.

If I choose not to pay when I park there what will happen? Who’s going to enforce this?

Good for the owner. Some might not understand, it’s a capitalism thang…….

One would think Wayland would want to purchase the lot? My opinon, my choice.

I understand Mr Rodriguez’s frustration of seeing his customers inconvenienced with others parking in choice spots in his lot. I can imagine the mountain of critical social media that will be directed towards him if he orders vehicles towed but don’t see a similar reaction to the chiropractor’s lots signage.

Probably be best if Mr. Rodriguez gives his customers free parking and let others use the street side parking that’s available in downtown Wayland. It’s what the town council has decided.

The USA has 4 parking spots for every 3 registered cars and unless you are in a major city like NYC, Chicago, LA or university town, a lot of parking is still free. But you have to be willing to walk.

I would say to park in the library parking lot on the south side of the library, that is owned by the city not the library!! The city manager dug himself a hole by not compromising with Arny , they want to revitalize downtown but not by helping businesses out, no business will want to come here!!! Maybe we need to think about a new city manager, he took away cleaning sidewalks also and a select few get theirs done on Main Street etc. . Where’s the transparency in what they did with our money after taking the sidewalk clearing away from us!!
