The National Weather Service issued a “red flag” fire danger warning Sunday at 10:17 a.m. EDT in effect until 8 p.m. EDT for Clare, Mecosta, Isabella, Montcalm, Gratiot, Kent, Ionia, Clinton, Barry, Eaton, Ingham, Kalamazoo, Calhoun and Jackson counties.
Taking no chances, are fire departments such as Dorr, Leighton, Wayland/Yankee Springs, Martin and Hopkins are asking area residents not to burn because of recent dry weather and windy conditions.
