Consumers Energy has plans to shut down power in this area overnight from Saturday to Sunday, Dec. 7 and 8.
The outage is scheduled to begin at 11 p.m. Saturday and last until 6 a.m., seven hours.
A statement from the energy provider was mailed to residents. It said, “We understand power outages are incovenient. That’s why we work around the clock to minimize interruptions. However, for our crews to safely complete the electrical system upgrade near you we’re planning a power outage.”
If Consumers is unable to complete its work as scheduled, the backup date will be 11 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 14 and 15.
Those need more information may call 1-800-477-5050.
Not everybody is happy about this development. There was plenty of chatter on Facebook greeting the news.
Michelle Heim Northrup: “For people this is going to affect…please call Consumers Energy on Monday Dec. 2) and tell them this is not OK! I hear it’s supposed to be 18 degrees. People in mobile homes have heat tape to keep their pipes from freezing. They absolutely should have done this when we didn’t need to use our furnaces.”
Mary Ellen Dandrow: “I can’t believe they can’t do this in say, September? April?
Memorie Moser Konecny: “Honestly. that’s why I’m thinking they’re doing it now. So people don’t lose their food. Can you imagine if they did this in a 90 degree day? People might get a little cold, but that’s good sleeping weather.”
Lynn Fahrne: “What are the people that use c pap and bipap machines suppose to do?”
Joseph Hayes: “How dare they upgrade the system in the middle of the night, even though I’m wrapped up in my warm blankets, fully pajama and socked out!!! How will I sleep knowing the constant noise of electricity isn’t buzzing? Damn slight inconvenience for that thing that just constantly works otherwise.”
Dave, it doesn’t start at 11:00 a.m. Sat. morning. It’s 11:00 p.m. We’re borrowing a battery operated generator to run CPAPs. I’m sure not everyone has access to one of those.
