Army Bob: Attack in Manchester shouldn’t be surprising

by Robert M. Traxler

The terrorist act in Manchester, England, has shocked and surprised us; it should not have. The Islamic terrorists bombed a concert attended mostly by young girls and women; to a radical Muslim they deserved what they got.

Let us never forget that according to a study by Al Jazeera, a Qatar-based news source, the majority of Muslims support suicide bombing. We in the west will condemn the murder of girls and women enjoying a rock concert, but most (more than 70%) of the world’s 1.6 billion Muslims do not.

The paragraph above flies in the face of the politically correct crowd. Many will say that all we need to do is hold a candlelight vigil and the terrorists’ hearts will melt by our display of kindness, and they will light candles and break into songs of peace.

The first American President to send military forces to combat terrorists was Thomas Jefferson. The Marine Hymn “to the shores of Tripoli” refers to a small detachment of Marines (under the overall command of an Army officer) who attacked Islamic terrorists in 1801. Islamic terrorism has been with us for 216 years. I trained in terrorism counteraction in the 1970s and 1980s; every generation of Americans battled Islamic terrorism to some extent.

It only took a few minutes for the folks in the left-wing media to blame President Donald Trump for the bombing. “It was no surprise the attack occurred a few hours after President Trump’s speech in the Mideast.” To build an explosive device and plan an attack takes more than a few hours, but who cares, it is noble in the eyes of the left to blame President Trump for all the sins in the book.

After every terrorist attack, we go through the same dance; the media tells us not to jump to conclusions and the attack was a “lone wolf” operation. Any military operation takes a support system and in nearly all the attacks several people are tried, jailed or identified quietly weeks after the attack. A support system is needed to provide transportation, intelligence, planning, food, shelter and bomb expertise.

The Manchester bombing will be no different; the bomber, who murdered among 23 others an 8-year-old girl, will be a rock star in the Islamic world. Trading cards along the line of baseball cards will be printed and 1.1 billion Muslims will sing his praises. Thousands of children will be named in his honor and he will be immortalized in print and song.

Why is it a noble thing to attack women and girls at a rock concert? Well for one, women are evil; the reason women must be covered head to toe is to protect innocent Allah-loving men from the evil feminine wiles. Women out at night not supervised by a male relative, not properly attired deserve what they get. Folks, you can’t make this up; evil women corrupting innocent men? Not on my planet.

The world has seen three jihads: the first in 622, the second ended in 1683 (thanks to the Polish and French for that) and the third started after World War Two and is ongoing. We should not be surprised that the Islamic Mujahedeen, or Warriors of God, attacked us or the west. If an overwhelming majority of Islam supports jihad, we will have jihad. If the murders of women and girls are idolized, we will have jihad. As long as murders in the name of Islam are given a perceived clear path to paradise and 76 virgins, we will have jihad.

History has proven that any military operation needs a support arm; mark my words, the Brits will find one.
