by Robert M. Traxler
Beto O’Rourke, or legally, Robert Francis O’Rourke, a former Democratic member of the House of Representatives from the 16th Congressional district in Texas and candidate for President once stated, “Hell, yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47.”
Former Vice President Joe Biden has named Rep. O’Rourke the tzar for gun confiscation; now that the primary is over, we never hear from Mr. O’Rourke? Last I heard his name it was in connection with a voluntary buyback program, not the illegal seizure of private property. Say one thing and do another? Vice President Biden as Candidate Biden endorsed Mr. O’Rourke’s confiscation plan until he got the Democrats nomination, now not so much.
Mr. O’Rourke must have read the Constitution in the time between now and the Democratic primary. The Second Amendment reads “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” Please keep in mind that in 1789 when the Bill of Rights was drafted, the “militia” was every able-bodied man. Militias also included volunteer women in combat support roles.
Mr. O’Rourke must have gone on to read the Fifth Amendment: “…nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.” With more than 394,000,000 firearms and 8,200,000,000 rounds of ammunition in private hands, the cost would be over $5.4 billion for ammunition and $197 billion for firearms.
Keep in mind that is the number of arms and ammunition known to exist; with millions of Americans reloading spent cartridges and some firearms that have not been declared and are older than 52 years when records started to be kept are not counted. Add in war souvenirs, along with antique and black powder weapons to include our half scale M1841 6lb black powder smooth bore cannon, and the numbers increase.
If you attempted to purchase firearms or ammunition in the last few months, post the radical left going out of control, you will discover how difficult it is to find either in popular models or calibers. The call popular with the socialists and progressive left for the dissolution of the police and law by mob rule has caused millions to seek self-protection. The question is, absent the police, who are you going to call for help? The out-of-control mob has targeted the old, young, women, children, handicapped, black, white, rich, poor, even the police.
Two police officers in Los Angeles County sitting in a vehicle were shot numerous times and were fighting for their lives when “protesters” showed up at the entrance to the emergency room shouting “let them die.” Apparently black lives do matter, but no other lives, or any police officers lives matter. Just how do you square black lives matter and the shooting of black police officers? Easy, just say they are blue not black, a way to dehumanize the police. They can then go on to attack anyone who is not one of them.
A radio reporter who was near the protest scene at the hospital where the two L.A County officers were fighting for their lives was taken into custody. NPR reported she was “covering” the protest. The sheriff’s department later stated that the reporter had interfered with the arrest of a male protester.
National Public Radio covered the ambush of two police officers in the first few paragraphs of reports, then went wall to wall over the arrest of an NPR reporter who had her credentials displayed, (the police disagree that they were displayed). The NPR reports never said that she did not interfere with the police, but they were incensed her “get out of jail free” card being a credentialed reporter did not work.
Mark these words: as we get closer to the election the threats by the mob will increase and we will be threatened by the media with wanton violence and destruction unless they get their way. Please remember the protests and violence after the election of President Trump, even the liberal “celebrations” that turned violent after President Obama’s election.
Is it any wonder gun sales are setting records? No matter who is elected, the mob will continue the violence as long as there is no penalty.
The police are the criminals, defund them all and the world will be a better place. Beto said it right when he said take the guns, only Fascists and Nazis have guns. Which are you?
Mr. Jones,
Sir,
You are forgetting the Fascists and Nazis were socialists, I have always been against socialism. Absent the police people form committees for self defense, historically they were called vigilance committees shortened to vigilantes.
We have a Constitution protecting our right to keep and bear arms, many of us took an oath to support and defend the constitution, it includes the Second Amendment.
No, Fascists and Nazis were/are the direct opposite of socialists. Just because they might have the word ‘socialist’ in their name, the philosophies and beliefs were/are totally different. In fact, the Nazi’s added the word ‘socialist’ to their title, and adopted some rather pedestrian socialist ideas, specifically to draw workers away from Germany’s socialist movement and into theirs…rebranding, if you will, to make people think they were something they weren’t. Sort of like the Democratic Republic of North Korea – neither democratic nor republic.
See work of historian Michael Stutchbery for further explanation. He gives more explicit examples.
Ms. Johnson,
Thank you for the comment.
Fascism was conceived by Benito Mussolini a life long born and bread socialist and leader of the socialist party in Italy, as was his father before him. Please read one of Mussolini’s books and make up your own mind. Hitler called Mussolini “my teacher”. The truth hurts and gets in the way of turning our nation into a socialist state, try as you may to deny it, the Fascists were socialists. You can but lipstick on a pig but it is still a pig.
It’s truly amazing how many believe a world without rules will work. If there were no rules or people to enforce them, would there not be chaos?
These utopian dreamers would be the first victims. Imagine someone entering your home to remove all things they deemed valuable. Alas, how could you justify fighting to keep them, since you want a society built on the “honor system ” with no rules or enforcement?
The vast majority of the time, those against law enforcement break the laws and get caught. Yes, we are elated to see the speeder pulled over on the expressway… but then get stopped for being over the limit in our hometown. Defund the police.
Because we have developed into a society where individuals refuse to take responsibility for their actions and the resulting consequences, we want to remove laws and law enforcement, therefore making our actions non enforceable.
The journey down this “slippery slope” has gained momentum. Reaching the bottom, we will see more death and destruction. What will the bottom of the slope look like? Will it be a lawless society of unbelievable horror? It may possibly return to law and order.
Either way few living today will know since it took a few generations to reach our present point in history.
Prepare for the worst. Hope for the best.
Mr. Smit,
Harry,
Thanks for the comment. Yes without the police it would be chaos. The police are the enforcement arm of the judicial system, are judges going out to physically arrest offenders or politicians, social workers?
“Prepare for the worst. Hope for the best” indeed.
Thanks again.
Gentlemen,
You are conveniently omitting the most important fact about “defund the police.” It does not mean eliminate police forces. It does not mean stop paying cops. It does mean reallocate, according to the municipality, the existing funding to more equitably and cost-effectively distribute the duties of the existing force. It does mean taking off the plates of the police such things as responding to issues of mental health disturbances, etc. Just as we have done to teachers in this country, we ask one facet of society to handle all the ills, all the woes, for us.
It’s time to spread around the responsibility for a more effective response to the needs of society.
Please stop misguiding readers with your anti-socialism rhetoric and your fear mongering.
So, defund the police does not mean defunding the police? Only a leftist could believe that!
Ms Mandaville
So you have a system in mind that when a 911 call comes in and the dispatcher thru communication comes to understand the caller is in a domestic abuse situation (it could be battering, threats with a weapon etc.) Will you send a social worker?
A caller says there is a person acting “crazy” with a weapon, so do you call a mental health specialist?
Please explain your allocation theory. What part of law enforcement goes to whom and in what scenario?
Every call law enforcement takes presents a different scenario… no two calls are 100% similar.
So yes, based on your theory, the law enforcement agencies would be defunded and the protection of law abiding people will be diminished.
Doesn’t this bother anyone? When have we come to except lawlessness, criminal behavior, violence, and open violation of laws as correct?
So yes I will prepare for the worst and pray for the best. (Meaning…” Lock and Load”).
Yeah Bob, you cretin! They don’t mean get rid of the pooolice. Just peaceful protests, burning pooolice stations, courts and federal buildings, looting and good clean fun shooting, taping, killing, and pillaging.
You just don’t understand!
This is straight from your girls mouth, “Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s recent statement about the budget cuts, in which she said: “Defunding police means defunding police. It does not mean budget tricks or funny math. ” Don’t argue with your own………
Cheers!!
Mr. Wilkens
John,
I had forgotten AOC said that, thanks.
Crickets in AZ……….
Cheers!!!
The silence is deafening! Maybe she needs to consult a dictionary, if she can find one! 🙂
