Martin High School graduate, Townbroadcast contributor, Grand Valley State University sophomore and political activist Austin Marsman found a couple more celebrity politician photo opportunities Tuesday night at the Democratic Party debate in Detroit. He had his photo taken with a rather tall Beto O’Rourke and with Michigan Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib. “I was able to thank her for standing up to the President and his racist, unprofessional tweets. (And yes, she’s even cooler in person).”

Austin’s political involvement fills my heart with rapture! When I was his age in college the furthest I traveled was 20 miles “down the road” out of our college town to the nearest bar and dance hall. That he would trek all the way to Detroit to be physically present at these debates speaks to his commitment to the democratic process, and I’m pleased to be an acquaintance to watch his rise in the arena.
