Wayland house was raided after Allegan man’s arraignment

Drug house?Ronald Clouse,  53, of Allegan, was arrested June 12 on 10 counts of various violations of the sex offender registration law. His duplex house across the street from Wayland City Park was raided Tuesday and that same day he was arraigned in the 57th District Court after posting a bond of $15,000.

Allegan County Undersheriff Frank Baker said the charges stem from his failing to verify employment locations after a detective with the Sheriff’s office was tipped off that Clouse was not actually reporting his employment status with an Allegan City business.

Clouse will be scheduled for future 57th District Court appearances on these charges.

Authorities raided the house at 203-205 Maple St., in Wayland Tuesday on the southwest corner of the intersection at Church and Maple streets, across from the Wayland City Park.

However, the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department said the raid was not drug-related, as many neighbors believed. Residents near the scene said police were hauling out evidence bags from the residence.

Officers from the Wayland post of the Michigan State Police, unmarked cars, an Allegan County Sheriff’s detective and a task force from the Federal Bureau of Investigation were at the scene.

Allegan County Undersheriff Frank Baker said, “I spoke to the detective handling the case. This was part of a multi-jurisdictional investigation focusing on some things other than drugs. He is going to contact the task force and confirm the case will remain local.”
