There will be a special meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in Hastings of the Barry County Planning and Zoning Commission to discuss an application made by Lucas Spoor with Legacy Properties LLC and owner of The Landing on Gun Lake Marina.
The application asks to “Operate a Place of Public Assembly (large)” at Gun Lake. According to Barry County Zoning Law, a Place of Public Assembly (large) is outlined as: “A place of public assembly shall be considered a large facility if it has either 2,000 square feet or more in gross floor area, total seating capacity of more than 100 in the largest room or space intended for public assembly, or the capability to expand to meet these standards in the future.”
Since the area is zoned “mixed use,” a special use permit is required for a large place of Public Assembly.
Besides this application, there is also a drawing of a 100-foot dock to be added to the lake frontage; and plans to retail gasoline from a dock-mounted pump, with a storage tank on the landward side of Marsh Road. Spoor has registered with the State as a Fuel Retailer; however, the DEQ is showing no plans or approval to date.
No further information has been given.
The meeting Monday evening will be at the Tyden Center Community Room. Members of the public can attend and give comment, which will be limited to three minutes. Those who can’t make the meeting are encouraged to contact Jim McManus, Barry County Planning Supervisor at JMcManus@barrycounty.org with comments.
