Barry Hastings: Trump’s faux pas presenting Purple Heart

by Barry Hastings

Another faux pas committed by President Donald Trump. This one is (almost) unbelievable, and is another clear indication the idiot knows nothing about the military (or much besides, for that matter).

Trump actually congratulated a veteran at Walter Reed military hospital on presenting him a Purple Heart. It’s like saying, “Congratulations on having your leg blown off,” and about as stupid as describing a small group of warships he claimed were moving toward the Korean peninsula a week or so ago, as an “Armada.” Well, it wasn’t an armada (a very large fleet of warships), nor was it heading for Korea. It was in fact, going in the exact opposite direction. (He blamed this mistake on a mis-communication by the Pentagon).

A lot of that going on with his bunch. The small group of vessels should (more accurately) have been described as a “task group,” or a “task force,” even the archaic term “flotilla” would have been more accurate than “armada.”

(Trump thinks hose military folks are so dumb, it’s a wonder the D-Day landings didn’t end up in Patagonia, rather than Normandy.) What a stupid ass he is. He’d have done better at Walter Reed thanking the wounded soldier for his service and sacrifice. But, Trump’s a man who “knows more about ISIL (and everything else) than the generals,” so I guess we’ll have to tolerate his little foibles.

I’ve also noticed, and often mention when speaking to people, our President’s pitifully narrow vocabulary. His entire vocabulary of descriptive terms consists of two T words – “terrific” and “terrible.” (Pa – freaking – thetic!)

Well, it is good indeed Dems and Progressives are fired up against Trump. His political base is, like himself, deplorably ignorant. But you can’t, and won’t win being “against,” you have to be for, and you have to stick together. We can’t have disappointed backers of one candidate or another running off in a huff, and creating a no-win situation for us.

I worked for Hillary, starting on the morning after John Kerry lost (2004), ’til Obama beat Hillary in the primary cycle in 2008, then pitchedin and worked for him for eight years, even though he was a bit wishy-washy on more foreign issues than I wanted, or liked. It’s the overall person, and our country, we have to think about (if we get another chance before the Fascists have a grip we can’t pry loose).

Trump’s detestables are pretty firmly in the driver’s seat right now, and the reason is because too damned many of you stayed home pouting on election day, didn’t unite, didn’t turn out to vote as you should have. You know who you are. I can tell you this, had Bernie been running at the end, I’d have been working as hard for him as I did for Hillary. I doubt many who failed the nation are proud of the decision to do so today.

Their (your) short-sightedness is hastening the arrival of our world flooded-out by melting polar ice caps, asphyxiated by a poisoned atmosphere, and a million heavily armed people like our own Michigan Militia hoping for the opportunity to shoot us down like dogs in a fight for survival.

(I used to feel sorry for those people because if things were as bad as they believe them to be, they’d already be pushing up daisies — but no more, there are too many of them to laugh off, or to be content with ridiculing them.)

Trump’s election has inspired the nut jobs. People like him, the billionaires in key positions in his administration, and the numbers of racist pigs taking over federal law enforcement duties (they’ve ever been a questionable lot — remember J. Edgar Hoover), have proven willing, many times in our history, to crush citizen’s rights and critics of every hue and belief, through incarceration.

At any rate, you can believe this. If nothing is done to correct the global warming problem, and billions of everyday people are going to disappear from what is right now,  as I write, a collapsing garden in our universe. Solving the problem is most likely going to require… (what?) Certainly dedication, likely much more.
