Barry County Sheriff Dar Leaf has escaped any charges in connection with allegations he tampered with election  equipment two and a half years ago.

Leah had been accused of conspiracy to steal a voting machine from Irving Township. Special Prosecutor D.J. Hilson of Muskegon said Leaf would not be charged because there was “not sufficient evidence to prove a crime.”

The Barry County Clerk indicated in 2021 that someone from the Barry County Sheriff’s Department had taken a Dominion voting AND when the machine was returned, it had a broken security seal.

Attorney Jason Rybak, who was also under investigation, will not be charged for the same reason, Hilson said.

Meanwhile, former state Rep. Daire Rendon, former attorney general candidate Matt DePerno and attorney Stefanie Lambert-Juntilla will continue to face charges after a grand jury heard looked into the matter earlier this year.

Michigan Attorney Dana Nessel last year asked for a special prosecutor to examine allegations of a conspiracy to take and tamper with voting machines after learning that a third party was allowed to access vote tabulator components and technology in Roscommon County.
